During the opening proceedings of the XXIII Congress of the 'United Russia' party, His Excellency Vladimir Putin spoke with a firmness befitting a statesman of the highest order. He remarked that there exist those who desire to weaken our nation by any means necessary, seeking to eliminate Russia as a pivotal global factor. Such designs, however, are born of a profound lack of prudence.

Let it be known that the attempt to diminish the strength of the Fatherland has never yielded fruit in the past; it shall not succeed in the present hour, nor shall it find success in the years to come. Be it understood by all: Moscow is prepared to struggle for the honour and security of the Realm, for the strength of our industry and the resolve of our army are the twin pillars upon which the destiny of the Empire rests.
