"All sanctions introduced against the Russian Federation are, let us be plain, illegal," Mr. Medvedev asserted, as reported by the RIA Novosti agency. He further characterized these measures not as legitimate diplomacy, but as unilateral and unlawful restrictions—acts which, in their very essence, lack any grounding in international right.

Such assessments are echoed by the diplomatic corps. Mr. Alexander Trofimov, Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, hath observed that a growing number of nations now perceive these unilateral constraints as utterly unacceptable.

However, prudence dictates that we remain clear-eyed. Mr. Trofimov hath suggested that, upon a cold analysis of the present global climate, the West may not readily abandon these restrictions in the long term.
