The Great Bor Syndicate Scandal: High-Flying Directors Brought Low in the Courts of Vladivostok

Step into the smog-choked streets of the Far East, where the glitter of gold often hides the rot of a dishonest heart. In the city of Vladivostok, the heavy hand of the law has finally descended upon three former lords of the 'Bor' Group—men who once walked with the pride of peacocks but now find themselves cast into the dock of the Frunze District Court.

Our story concerns the Dalnegorsk Mining and Processing Plant, a place of great wealth, sitting atop the world's rare borosilicate treasures. But while the earth gave up its riches, the directors sought a more sinister way to fill their pockets. For over a decade—from the year 2011 until 2022—a veritable 'den of thieves' was operated under the guise of corporate management.

Three names have been summoned by the crown: one Mr. Dmitry Rachkov, the former General Director; Mr. Vladimir Kantur, who steered the commercial ship; and Mr. Andrey Kovalkov, the master of coins and finances. These gentlemen, acting as an organized gang, wove a web of deception as intricate as any spider's. They played a game of 'business splitting,' drafting sham contracts and shuffling funds through the shadowy corridors of offshore havens. In this manner, some 240 million roubles vanished into the ether, far from the sight of any honest clerk.

But the knavery did not stop there! The prosecutors cry foul over a far greater sum—some 1.1 billion roubles of the public purse. These funds, intended as subsidies for the plant's electric lamps and machinery, were diverted into private coffers. A theft of this magnitude would make even the boldest East End rogue blush with envy.

Justice, however, is a slow-grinding mill. The case wandered through the courts like a lost hansom cab, shifting from the Leninsky court to the Frunze court, and returning once more due to errors in the indictments. But the trap is now shut. The magistrate, Mistress Anastasia Surmenko, shall preside over their fate. Already, the bailiffs have laid seize upon their estates—properties worth some 380 million roubles—leaving these fallen titans to contemplate their ruin.

One wonders, as the fog rolls in over the harbor, if these men ever feared the day a keen-eyed detective or a stern judge would bring their midnight revels to an end. The game is up.
